Squadron 42 Details Emerge at CitizenCon, Mark Hamill Returns
Today at CitizenCon a few details surrounding the cast of voice actors have been released. Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill and John Rys-Davies are some of the stars that will be lending their talents what's poised to be a stellar story-based module in Star Citizen.
Squadron 42 will have a talented cast and uses more than just their voices.
Only details around the tole that Gary Oldman will play were released. Oldman will be playing Admiral Bishop in game, and while we know the rest of the case, their roles and character details haven't been released as of yet. It will be interesting to see if Mark Hamill again takes on a leading role, as he did in the Wing Commander series of old.
A tremendous amount of work has been done to capture not only their voices, but also the movements and personality of the actors they'll be using so that the characters in-game are more lively and full of substance rather than simple rendered models. The motion capture was done by Imaginarium, Earling Studios, a very talented group that uses some very sophisticated equipment to bring people to life in video games and more. A complex 3D scanning of the entire actor is used to create a very lifelike model that can be fully animated using the novel animation scripts and engine that the folks at Foundry 42 have built for CryEngine. The entire Squadron 42 product is something that Chris Roberts himself has been very involved with.
Squadron 42 is set for a tentative 2016 release date. You can pre-order it now by opting for the Squadron 42 pledge package, which is only $45.00. It will, of course, be available to everyone who has a pledge package that includes access to the game. No separate package is necessary.
