Sony Interactive Entertainment topped Metacritic's annual publisher rankings, thanks to a high average Metascore indicating the generally high level of quality of the publisher's releases.

Today, Metacritic shared its 13th Annual Game Publisher Rankings, confirming which publishers maintained a high quality level across multiple releases. As stated above, Sony Interactive Entertainment is the best publisher of the past year, with an average Metascore of 85.6 spread across 15 scored products and 10 distinct titles. None of these titles received a bad score.

Following Sony Interactive Entertainment in Metacritic's ranking are Paradox Interactive, with an average Metascore of 81.8, and Activision Blizzard, with an average Metascore of 76.5. Unsurprisingly enough, Microsoft is missing from the list, as the publisher only released four titles, failing to reach the five-title threshold set by Metacritic to enter the rankings.

Other big publishers did not have that great of a year as well. While CAPCOM and SEGA ranked pretty high, in sixth and seventh places respectively, others did not fare as well, like Bandai Namco (24th), Square Enix (26th), and Ubisoft (38th). Sony Interactive Entertainment undeniably had a strong 2022, starting with the excellent PC port of God of War and ending with the release of God of War Ragnarok on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. While these are undeniably among the best games ever put out by the publishers, they aren't the only games released by SIE last year, as Horizon Forbidden West, Grant Turismo 7, and MLB The Show 2022 contributed to the high average Metascore of the publisher.
