Apple just released the new iPhone 16 lineup and the new Apple Watch Series 10, but the company will release many other products in the coming weeks. We have previously heard that Apple will launch its new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models next month, and ahead of the upgrades, the tech giant appears to have leaked its highly anticipated Mac mini with 5 USB-C ports.
Upcoming redesigned Mac mini to feature an additional USB-C port, but on less USB-A port
Apple has already announced the new M4 chip with the OLED iPad Pro models earlier this year and the new SoC will finally be making its way to the Macs. We have previously heard that the company is working to upgrade its MacBook Pro lineup and apart from the laptops, the company also has plans to announce a redesigned version of the Mac mini. MacRumors contributor has now discovered a code in Apple's software showcasing the new Mac mini with 5 USB-C ports.
The code belongs to the unreleased Mac mini, which will house a version of the M4 chip, and it is slated to come with 5 USB-C ports. This is not the first time we have heard details on additional ports, as analyst Mark Gurman had previously shared the exact details related to the upgrade. Gurman also stated that two ports on the Mac mini will be situated on the front and three at the back, similar to the Mac Studio. The string in Apple's software reads;
"Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port)."
From a technical standpoint, at least one of these ports will feature Thunderbolt 4 with a USB-C connector design. As for what we should expect, the upcoming Mac mini is expected to be quite compact compared to the current models, which means that it will be thinner with a low profile and possibly with a smaller footprint as well. Additionally, the redesigned Mac mini is also slated to come in two configurations, possibly featuring the base M4 chip as well as the M4 Pro chip with higher CPU and GPU cores.
Since the company is increasing the number of USB-C ports on the machine, we also expect the number of USB-A ports to decrease. The upcoming model will also continue to sport the rest of the ports such as an HDMI port, Ethernet port, and a headphone jack. Other than this, Apple's event will also be center stage for the iPad mini 7 announcement. At this stage, we are not familiar with the launch time frame, but are expectations point to an October or November release.
