A massive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 specifications sheet was leaked mere moments ago, revealing that Qualcomm intends to unveil two chipset variants, with both of them featuring an ‘Adreno GPU 8-series for the highest in graphics performance and power efficiency.’ However, in-depth details were not provided of the Adreno 830 graphics processor, but a tipster has chimed in, stating that it is being tested at a 25 percent higher clock speed compared to the Adreno 750, which is a part of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Almost immediately after the specifications sheet leaked, Ice Universe introduced a small tidbit of information to the mix on Weibo, where he stated that the Adreno 830 is being tested at a clock speed of 1,250MHz. For comparison purposes, the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 had its Adreno 750 graphics processor operate at 1,000MHz, and it was unconfirmed for how long it could sustain those speeds.

We believe that since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 employs TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, the advantage that comes with transitioning to an improved manufacturing process is energy efficiency. This attribute alone should allow the Adreno 830 GPU to operate at 1,250MHz, but the tipster does not mention if these speeds will be witnessed in the regular version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or the ‘performance’ one.

The aforementioned clock speeds could be a major reason why the Adreno 830 was slightly faster than the Apple M2 GPU in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme, and assuming those previous rumors turn out to be legit, we could witness the fastest smartphone graphics processor in existence. Additionally, Qualcomm is said to bring improved memory compression and ‘GPU Interpolation Technology,’ which will behave similarly to NVIDIA’s Frame Generation, which is exclusive to its RTX 4000 series of GPUs.

Do note that just because a graphics processor is being tested at higher clock speeds does not necessarily translate into the commercial units also operating at those frequencies, as there are various factors to keep in mind, such as ambient temperature, a smartphone’s cooling solution, and others. Hopefully, we get to see Adreno 830 in action soon so we can provide an impartial comparison with the competition.
