How to force restart Vision Pro headset

It has been a little less than a year since the debut of the Galaxy S23 series. At that time, the company revealed it is working on an XR headset that will be made in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm - Samsung's closest allies. Sadly, we did not have much information or even a release date then. There were rumors that the headset would come out sometime in 2023, but that did not happen. And just when people started questioning the commitment of the South Korean tech giant, there finally is some information update on the headset to keep the speculations at bay.

Samsung's XR headset will be cheaper than the Apple Vision Pro, release date scheduled for H2 2024

Based on a new report, Samsung created a separate team and named it "Immersive Team" to develop the XR headset. The team is working under the Samsung MX division, and what started off as a small team is now a hundred-strong, with further team expansion planned in the near future.

This seems like a great time for Samsung to gear up because the Apple Vision Pro is already out, and it's making waves in the XR world. So, it is fair that there needs to be competition. Another interesting thing the report reveals is that the headset could come out later this year. The company could launch the XR headset alongside the Galaxy Z series in July or August this year.

Details are few on the Samsung XR headset, but we have heard so far that you will get a couple of 1.03-inch OLED displays with 3,500ppi pixel density in the headset. The microdisplay is being developed by eMagin, which is owned by Samsung. The headset could come with the Snapdragon XR2+ processor that is capable of powering two 4.3K resolution screens per eye at 90fps. The South Korean tech giant is also going to Google for an operating system that will power the headset, and my guess is that it will be a heavily customized Android suitable for XR headsets.

The Samsung XR headset will also come with a number of cameras, full-color passthrough with really low latency, and a lot of other features. It is safe to say that although Samsung is late to the party, it is not giving up on its headset. The best part is that, according to several reports in the past, the headset is going to cost less than the Apple Vision Pro, which has been criticized by Mark Zuckerberg for its price, as well. And, of course, the headset will work with all Galaxy devices, so if you need to be sure that you are getting access to a complete ecosystem, this is a great way to get started.

The Galaxy Z series will be launched in July/August, later this year. We expect the Samsung XR headset to debut at the same time, and based on our information, it certainly looks like an ambitious project. It is obvious that the South Korean tech giant is putting in all the effort to ensure that it is not being left behind in the race to develop a robust XR product. Given Apple is already here with the Vision Pro, it is only fair to expect a proper Vision Pro competitor in the market for users to have solid products.

Do you think Samsung should come out with its own XR headset, or should the company just stick to making mobile devices? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
