Samsung has established itself in many domains and is actively working on bringing forward AI capabilities meant to improve its users' experience. The company's smart fridges are part of its Family Hub lineup and are focused on offering smart solutions with advanced technology. Now, the company is introducing another groundbreaking feature to the smart fridges that would let users know when they are low on groceries and, with the help of AI, give suggestions for groceries.

Users who own a Samsung smart fridge will now be able to shop for groceries directly from the fridge screens

Samsung recently announced its multi-year partnership with Instacart, which is meant to allow users to shop for groceries directly from their Samsung smart fridge screens. This advanced feature will be available on the new 9-inch screen and the 32-inch model, which will be coming out at CES this month.

As per the press release, Samsung will be leveraging its Samsung Vision AI food recognition technology to completely revamp the grocery shopping experience and help identify if you are low on groceries. By using Instacart's product matching API, the fridge screen would give suggestions through Instacart about the items you need to add based on the current inventory.

The integration with Instacart and Samsung's focus on bringing AI-powered convenience for its users can be seen through the seamless ordering experience it would now be providing. The AI Vision Inside technology uses both exterior and interior cameras that are strategically placed to monitor the content of the fridge and the items added or removed. The exterior camera helps detect when items are added and removed to Instacart, and with the help of the interior camera, a virtual inventory is maintained by keeping track of what is available on the shelves and what needs to be added.

Although the systems cannot yet monitor items in the door bins and the freezer, this convenience could be added in the future. This feature alone marks a huge leap in automated kitchen solutions and gives us a glimpse of how companies are actively developing AI-powered solutions for their varied product ranges. The technology can recognize up to 37 commonly bought food items, with the focus being on fruits and vegetables.

Users also have the option to manually add items to the food list through the Samsung Food app, which is accessible on smartphones and fridges. This highlights the comprehensive approach to managing food and items and brings user-friendly solutions. The integration with Instacart for its smart fridges is meant to come out later in the year with a firmware update and will be available for models equipped with AI Vision Inside.
