Samsung is one of the key players in the advancement of 5G technology. It is making end-to-end solutions which will let mobile carriers introduce 5G by next year. The Korean giant is also expected to launch smartphones which will be compatible with 5G and one of its carrier partners has said that Samsung 5G phones are going to be ready soon.
Chances Are That the First 5G-Capable Phone Might Be Announced Before the Galaxy S10
Park Jin-hyo, who serves as the Chief Technology Officer of SK Telecom, said that Samsung has made a lot of progress in its 5G technologies and will make a 5G phone soon. He made these remarks while talking to journalists at the MWC 2018 trade show in Barcelona.
He said: “It is not so far for Samsung either in coming up with a 5G device”. Huawei has recently announced its first 5G chipsets too and said that it will release a 5G smartphone in the second half of 2018. Park also said: “Huawei excels in its technologies…While Samsung may not say much, it has also been making a lot of preparations”.
During a recent sporting event in America, Samsung demonstrated a video call with a functional 5G tablet prototype on 5G with Verizon. The tablet could handle multi-gigabit 5G speeds and also supported data session handover between 4G LTE and 5G for perfect connectivity.
Apparently, Samsung secretly displayed its 5G modem prototype to partners at CES 2018. According to details, it will be able to touch a theoretical speed of up to 5Gbps and it will be backward compatible with 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G networks. The Galaxy S10 is expected to be the company’s first 5G enabled smartphone, though that might not be its official name in the future.
Qualcomm’s first 5G-capable chipset will be embedded inside the Snapdragon 855, though there are rumors that the Snapdragon 850 might also feature it, which will eventually give Samsung a ton of competition in the future as we bring the globe closer and closer to 5G connectivity.
