Qualcomm kept mum about the whole ‘naming scheme’ of its latest chipset, forcing rumors to claim that the next version will be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is fitting, given that it would be the immediate successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In late October, the San Diego firm confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be the official name, but it appears that Realme did not receive the memo regarding this change because its newest flagship’s box, which houses the GT 7 Pro, still has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 name printed on it.

Review unit of the Realme GT 7 Pro was revealed by an Android-centric publication to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 branding instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite

A company representative informed Android Authority that the Realme GT 7 Pro box mentions the name Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 instead of Snapdragon 8 Elite because Qualcomm took its sweet time revealing what the SoC would actually be called. The update from the chipset maker came several days before the Snapdragon Summit kicked off, which meant that the GT 7 Pro and its boxes had already been mass-produced and were just waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Elite announcement to conclude so it could unveil the flagship.

However, the publication mentions that the GT 7 Pro units meant for reviewers only had the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 name printed on the boxes, whereas the retail units sold to customers will sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite branding. It is entirely possible for Realme to have rushed the initial supply of boxes in an effort to be the first to send out review samples to media outlets and content creators.

Thankfully, it should not be difficult for Realme’s supply chain to make the required amendments for the boxes. However, it does mean that companies should be more careful about rushing their products because it can paint such incidents in a bad light.
