Pixel Watch 3 thinner bezels and improved brightness

The Pixel Watch 3 is set to launch alongside the Pixel 9 series at the Made by Google event on August 13th. Although there is still time for the big event, the latest wearable seems to be the subject of leaked reports every now and then. We have been getting hints about the upcoming smartwatch possibly getting thinner bezels than its predecessor and a bigger size, but the recent leak gives more insights on this.

Google's Pixel Watch 3 leak matches up with previous speculations regarding a larger model, and the series finally letting go of the thicker bezels

The FCC listing confirmed the upcoming model's Ultra-Wideband range, which could help the company achieve the Watch Unlock advancement it has intended to bring about for quite some time. The report also highlighted the Pixel Watch 3's 5 GHz Wi-Fi support for faster data transmission.

However, the new report by Android Authority gives more details on the previous speculations and confirms some of the display specifications. The Wear OS smartwatch is said to let go of the thick bezels this time and has reduced the bezels for both sizes, opting for 0.17 inches (4.5mm). Even though it has been trimmed down from its predecessors, compared to the Apple Watch, it is still not as sleek, but the overall look is much more refined than before.

The leak also gave the codenames for the two sizes, confirming the larger model that users and tech enthusiasts have been anticipating and the bigger dimensions Google is opting for this time. The 41 mm size has a Selene/Helios codename, and the 45mm is listed as Luna/Sol. It is said that the Pixel Watch 3 would be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chipset, which is the same as the previous model.

The flagship wearable would come with drastically improved brightness, going up to 2,000 nits, which is almost double that of its predecessors. The brighter display will significantly improve outdoor visibility, especially in direct sunlight. The smartwatch would also sport a higher resolution as it would go for 408 x 408 for the 41mm display size and 456 x 456 for the 45mm size, which is a huge jump from Watch 2.

The Ultra Wideband support (UWB) coming to the series would not just help upgrade the Watch Unlock option but also help with many other capabilities, including Digital Car Key support or even tracking your devices with the Find My Device feature. The case design is similar to the previous generation, and we will see silver and black color options for cases in both sizes. It is expected that the 41 mm would come in a gold case, and the larger display would come in a hazel case.

Google has been changing quite a few things this time around, be it the early launch date or the specification of the devices. As the event date approaches, we can expect more surprises to be underway.
