Pixel 9 Pro renders leak months before official launch

It appears that the upcoming Pixel 9, which will be released sometime in October this year, will come with adaptive touch sensitivity. As the name suggests, this feature is going to be able to adapt the screen's sensitivity to touch based on several environmental factors. Now, do keep in mind that this is not the first time that we have heard about this, as the evidence was found last month, and it has surfaced once again.

Pixel 9 series' adaptive touch sensitivity feature might never come to older Pixel devices

Android expert Mishaal Rahman has found that in the latest Android QPR beta, Adaptive Touch is enabled by default. The description reads, “Touch sensitivity will automatically adjust to your environment, activities, and screen protector.”

Now, there is no evidence of how this feature will work on Pixel devices like Pixel 9 or older phones. I do understand that some screen protectors do have an impact on how the screen responds. The same goes for any condensation on the screen during cold weather or water droplets on the screen. This could very well mean that Google is trying to bring a feature similar to Aqua Touch, which is found on the latest OnePlus 12.

Why could this feature be limited to Pixel 9? The code reviewed by the source labeled this Adaptive Touch feature as a P24 feature. P24 possibly refers to Pixel 2024, as P23 is the Pixel 8 series. So, if we are to go by what Google has been doing, this could mean that this feature might be limited to newer Pixel phones.

Now, I do understand the confusion that the feature is already up and running on Pixel 8, so why would it be limited to Pixel 9? As sad as it might seem, Google has a habit of limiting certain features to the latest devices. This sometimes happens within the same series, too. If you remember, the Pixel 8 lacked some of the pro controls that were offered on the Pixel 8 Pro. I genuinely hope this is not the case and that the feature comes out to older Pixel devices. Why wouldn't Google release something on older devices if it improves the experience?

The Pixel 9 series is set to debut sometime in October, later this year. If you are looking to upgrade, I would suggest that you hold onto that because you never know what the devices will have in store for you.
