Following some heated statements from the US Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, NVIDIA's CEO has said that they are working with the US to make sure that their latest AI chips are fully compliant with the newest regulation policies.
NVIDIA CEO Makes It Clear That All New AI Chips Developed For Restricted Markets Including China Will Be Fully Comply With US Regulations
NVIDIA's AI GPUs are the hottest hardware on the market right now with unparalleled demand from every corner of the tech spectrum.
The company controls over 90% of the AI market share with China being a major contributor to its AI business however, the US has implemented various curbs over tech giants from supplying their latest and greatest chips to Chinese companies.
The main reason is to hamper their AI growth and to cut off the supply of chips that can be used to gain an edge from a military and strategic standpoint. As such, several GPUs from NVIDIA were cut off from exports to Chinese customers and that led to NVIDIA reshuffling its orders and allocating them to various other markets with Japan and India being some of the newest entrants to its table.
During a roundtable meeting with the media in Singapore, NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, stated that they are working with the US in the development of new AI chips and are ensuring that the latest parts will fully comply with US policies.
"Nvidia has been working very closely with the U.S. government to create products that comply with its regulations,"
"Our plan now is to continue to work with the government to come up with a new set of products that comply with the new regulations that have certain limits."
Jensen further told the media that NVIDIA is working with the Singaporean government in the development of an in-house LLM (Large Language Model) known as Sealion and will offer big investments for it. The Sealion initiative has already secured $52 Million in funding from IMDA (Singapore's Infocom Media Development Authority), & will be the first LLM model developed in Southeast Asia.
NVIDIA also offered us a response for the previous post which essentially confirms what Jensen told the media in Singapore:
“We are working with the U.S. government and, following the government’s clear rules, are working to offer compliant data center solutions to customers worldwide.”

NVIDIA did push back the launch of its new China-Exclusive AI GPUs to Q1 2024 so it is likely that they are still in the process of securing full compliance from the US government for these chips & the launch of the upcoming GeForce RTX 4090 D, a gaming GPU designed to replace the RTX 4090 in the Chinese market after its ban, is also scheduled for early 2024.
