NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Graphics Card Rumored To Feature 6 GB Memory, Launches In June

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card is rumored to launch in June and the entry-level desktop solution will pack just 6 GB of memory.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Graphics Card Reportedly Launches In June With Just 6 GB VRAM

According to Twitter leaker MEGAsizeGPU, NVIDIA plans to launch its mainstream GeForce RTX 40 GPU lineup for desktops during the months of May and June. These cards are the lower-powered end of the spectrum of NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace GPU series and are looking to make a splash in the marketplace in the next two months. The series will include RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4060 Ti.

The below Twitter post is from MEGAsizeGPU, leaking the three cards and expected release dates:

Our sources have pointed out a May launch date for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 series graphics cards. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Non-Ti will be launching next month on the 13th of April and looks like the RTX 4050 is expected to hit retail shelves by June of 2023. So there should be at least three new graphics cards launched for desktop PCs by NVIDIA in the second quarter of 2023.

Additionally, the leaker also states that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 desktop graphics card will be equipped with just 6 GB of VRAM across a 96-bit bus interface. This is far lower than the RTX 3050 which offers 8 GB of memory across a 128-bit bus interface.

Why this should be a cause of concern because several AAA titles are now heavily dependent on at least 8 GB VRAM with some modern titles requiring more than 8 GB VRAM to run properly. The RTX 4050 will be targeting the mass PC market so a large majority of users may be unable to run games that have 8 GB VRAM as a minimum requirement.

We know that an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 card is on the horizon, not only because it is within the list of SKUs. At a 2022 press event, manufacturer GALAX had a box on the display of upcoming graphics cards, with one of the boxes labeled "Geforce RTX 4050." However, NVIDIA could easily remove this card before launch, but that is not expected to happen.

Regarding performance, the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 will offer a rumored 2,560 CUDA cores and have the exact memory specifications as the laptop variant. If this information is accurate, the already released NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 8 GB memory may end up being a tad bit faster but NVIDIA might market the RT and DLSS capabilities of the newer card heavily.
