There have been some wild rumors circulating on the Nintendo Switch 2 and its capabilities, but there's a good chance these may be exaggerations, and the only area where the new console by Nintendo will have the upper hand over the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will be ray tracing thanks to NVIDIA's Ray Reconstruction tech.
Speaking during the latest episode of Nate the Hate's podcast, the insider discussed the new console's capabilities with Digital Foundry's John Linneman, who put the rumors circulating about the system in context. While it's extremely likely the system will be able to deliver a decent ray tracing experience, mostly thanks to the efficiency of NVIDIA's ray tracing technology, claims that the system will be able to outperform the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X seem exaggerated. The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo may have run better during the Gamescom 2023 behind-closed-door demonstrations than on the other consoles, but this is likely due to improvements that have been made to the engine since the original demo's launch, especially as the latest version of the engine by Epic is hardware agnostic. The only area where the new Nintendo console could be superior to the others is ray tracing, thanks to Ray Reconstruction, which the consoles from Sony and Microsoft lack.
In another video shared earlier this month following the company's latest financial conference, where president Shuntaro Furukawa essentially denied the existence of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nate the Hate presented an interesting argument, saying that the March 2024 window that was thrown around a lot during Gamescom 2023 time is like the reveal window for the new system. It would make a lot of sense to inform investors about what's in store for the company in the future, considering how March 2024 is the end of the current fiscal year.
