New iPads have yet to be announced, but an updated Apple Pencil has officially been unveiled. What sets it apart from the other models is that it features a USB-C port that has been cleverly hidden through a sliding cap. Here are more updates on what features it supports, which iPad models are compatible with the latest accessory, and what compromises Apple made to bring the price of the stylus under $100.

Being an affordable accessory, the new Apple Pencil still manages to retain the key functionality of the higher-end second-generation model, with Bob Borchers, Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, saying that it is a versatile tool that unlocks a multitude of tasks when being worked on an iPad.

Thankfully, with its USB-C port, users will not have to carry around extra cables with them, as a single accessory will do the job just fine. The new Apple Pencil ships with features such as Pixel-perfect precision, along with low latency, tilt, but misses out on pressure sensitivity. All of these three are necessary when you wish to use the Apple Pencil to write, sketch, and draw with the utmost precision while feeling like you are actually drawing on a piece of paper.
Sadly, the new Apple Pencil cannot be wirelessly paired to an iPad or charged when connected to the side of an iPad. The other downside is that the latest accessory cannot be double-tapped if the user wants to change tools. As for availability, the new Apple Pencil will be arriving in the U.S. in early November, and it carries a price of $79 when it is officially released. If you want, you get the second-generation Apple Pencil right now, but it is a pricier purchase, coming in at $129, but you get more features out of the box.
