Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will be the first and last proper expansion coming to Monster Hunter World. Capcom Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto revealed as much in a video interview with Game Informer.

This is perhaps a bit surprising since Monster Hunter World proved to be immensely successful for the Japanese publisher. In fact, it became the best-selling Capcom game of all time about a year and a half ago and that’s saying something as Capcom produced many blockbusters over the course of its long history.

On the upside, perhaps this means they are already planning a full-fledged sequel. We’ll see what happens in the next few years. Meanwhile, Tsujimoto also confirmed in the aforementioned interview that around half of the story in Iceborne actually takes place in the old map, even though the expansion is adding a brand new tundra-like zone.

Kai managed to play the expansion at E3 2019 and you can read all about that in his preview. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is due on September 6th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while PC users will have to wait for the Fall season.

The Iceborne expansion adds new monsters, gear and abilities to Monster Hunter: World. Picking up right where the base game left off, the Research Commission and your hunter set off to a new polar region, kicking off a brand-new story set in Hoarfrost Reach. From this frigid staging ground, you’ll encounter all-new creatures, forge amazing new weapons and armor, and tackle thrilling quests that offer some of the most challenging encounters yet. Conquer these missions alone, or play online with other hunters for epic multiplayer quests.
