Lords of the Fallen has surpassed more than 5.5 million players, developer CI Games has announced.

"Mounstead burns brighter than ever, with over 5.5 million Lampbearers worldwide," the studio wrote in a post on X announcing the milestone. "Your fierce loyalty, feedback, and passion have helped shape Lords of the Fallen into what it is today...and the exciting chapter that comes next. In light, we walk!"

Lords of the Fallen launched in October 2023, and at the time, it launched in a poor state, to say the least. Wccftech's Francesco De Meo reviewed the game when it arrived, saying that he "was disappointed to see how the game failed to deliver an enjoyable experience. Some die-hard Souls series fans may find some enjoyment in the 35 or so hours-long journey to save Mournstead, but everyone else likely won't be able to see past the game's many shortcomings."

Since that launch, CI Games has released a number of updates and fixes, even going so far as to dub a recent update as a '2.0' version of the game, which is hardly how any developer would want to frame their game less than two years after it launched. At the very least, this update was also deemed a "massive improvement" by De Meo when he checked it out earlier this year.

Lords of the Fallen was also added to Xbox Game Pass last year, which explains why this 5.5 million players milestone isn't framed as copies sold, since there's a good chance most of those players checked the game out through Xbox's subscription service, instead of buying the game directly.

If you liked Lords of the Fallen, despite its shortcomings, then you might be happy to know that there's more to come from CI Games, who announced a sequel to the 2023 game last June. Lords of the Fallen 2 is due to arrive sometime in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, as there's no specific release date yet.
