Lords of the Fallen 2 has officially been delayed out of 2026, developer CI Games has confirmed via a statement from the studio's chief executive officer Marek Tyminski posted to his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. It's the latest game to move out to 2027 rather than try and hold its 2026 release window where it would inevitably duke it out with GTA 6 and an already packed back-half of triple-A games in 2026.
The statement, like others from the likes of Valor Mortis makers One More Level, does reference the team's desire to give Lords of the Fallen 2 more room to breathe, but presents that as a secondary reason behind the key factor behind the decision.
Tyminski first puts the decision to delay Lords of the Fallen 2 on the feedback provided by "the Gameplay Feedback Team, a dedicated group of seasoned Souls-like veterans within our Launch Creative Team."
"Their valuable ongoing input, combined with the team’s vision, has identified meaningful opportunities to further refine and strengthen the overall experience," Tyminski continued. It was then that he added, "This updated release window also strategically positions Lords of the Fallen 2 outside of a highly competitive holiday period, ensuring the game receives the dedicated attention it deserves."
"The team remains fully energized by the strong response to our recent reveals and is deeply focused on delivering a standout dark fantasy action RPG and a worth successor to the Lords of the Fallen franchise," Tyminski continues. "We are grateful for the continued passion, feedback, and support from our community, and we look forward to sharing more updates in the coming months."
Of course, it's not a surprise that CI Games ultimately decided to move Lords of the Fallen 2 out of this year. Every studio that has admitted to a 2026 release window, but no specific release date (and even those that have a set date), have all talked about the possibility of delaying.
September 2026 itself has only gotten busier since Wccftech's Alessio Palumbo called out how busy the month was at the beginning of the Summer Game Fest showcase craze. If the game wasn't going to be ready to release within the next month, then CI Games' choices were incredibly limited.
Either go before GTA 6 like everything else, and try not to be too deep into October so that you're not prematurely swallowed by it drawing everyone's attention, or go after, when everyone will surely be doing nothing but playing GTA 6 for the remainder of the calendar year.
Pushing out to 2027, especially to give the team more time to polish the experience is almost a no-brainer decision in that sense, though there are of course several more layers to these choices. The question now becomes when it'll arrive in next year's first quarter.
February 2027 is already becoming a busy month, so we may not get to see Lords of the Fallen 2, CI Games' third entry in its Souls-like franchise launch until March 2027. But that's just speculation. Hopefully we're not waiting too deep into the year.
