Finally, some good news after a long time. The ongoing NAND shortage is reportedly going to end next year.

Noticeable Growth in NAND Supply to Put an End to Shortages by the End of 2027 as NAND Suppliers are Expected to Upgrade Production Lines

While the DRAM market is expected to go through its worst-ever phase throughout the next two years, at the least the storage market is reportedly going to witness some relief. If you have been following the developments around the DRAM and NAND market, you might be aware that analysts predict instability for the next few years.

For the DRAM market, the situation is even worse with ADATA expecting the DRAM shortage for the next 10 years. As far as the NAND supply is concerned, it's expect to see some relief the next year. As per the latest report by Trend Force, the global NAND Flash market is expected to remain supply-constrained throughout 2026, but should witness relief next year.

AI infrastructure investments continue to gobble up NAND flash memory, while the mainstream market for consumers continue to suffer from nearly 4X the usual prices. However, as per the latest report, the current shortage is unlikely to last indefinitely as the supply is expected to gradually overtake the demand during the second half of 2027.

It's expected that the AI server demand is going to remain strong through 2027, but since manufacturers are expected to steadily increase the output despite fab constraints, relief is expected as higher prices continue to result in weaker demand in the consumer electronics. Korean, US, and Japanese suppliers are likely to upgrade their existing product lines and expand the capacity to increase the supply. Chinese suppliers are also expected to ramp the production more aggressively as additional equipment enters service.

Despite the current strength of the server market, the consumer electronics remain a major factor for overall NAND demand. Smartphones and notebooks still represent nearly 40% of the total NAND Flash bit consumption even though servers now represent over 40% of the total demand. This means the consumer market is still a major factor that impacts the market conditions.
