Today, California-based independent developer Ember Lab announced that Kena: Bridge of Spirits will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 this Spring.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits first launched on PlayStation platforms and PC in September 2021 and went on to win several awards, including Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2021. On Wccftech, the game earned an 8 out of 10 score from reviewer Francesco De Meo, who wrote at the time:
Despite featuring a very familiar experience inspired by The Legend of Zelda series, Kena: Bridge of Spirits manages to stand out from the competition with its amazing visuals, excellent combat system, and puzzle design. The underwhelming story and lack of real innovation prevent the game from being a must-have, sure, but what Kena: Bridge of Spirits does well, it really does well, so much that it's very easy to look past its issues.
The announcement press release includes the following statement from Josh Grier, Chief Operating Officer at Ember Lab:
We’re incredibly excited to bring Kena’s journey to a whole new audience, giving players the chance to experience her story at home or on the go with Nintendo Switch 2. As our studio’s debut title, the overwhelming support and love the game has received over the years has truly meant a great deal to our team. We’re beyond thrilled that even more players will now be able to fully immerse themselves in Kena’s world and become part of her journey.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version includes the Anniversary DLC, featuring Charmstones, Spirit Guide Trials, Kena Outfits, and accessibility features. There's also a New Game+ mode, which allows players who’ve completed the game to restart Kena’s journey with all of their previously unlocked abilities, including upgrades, outfits, Rot, and more, as well as redesigned and more challenging combat encounters.
A couple of weeks ago, during February's State of Play, Ember Lab announced a sequel called Kena: Scars of Kosmora. Due to launch later this year on PlayStation and PC (Steam), it features Kena as an accomplished Spirit Guide who travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora seeking a cure for her affliction and to reconnect with a friend from her past. Scars of Kosmora will be published by PlayStation Publishing, unlike the first game, which was self-published; as such, it's possible it won't launch on Xbox or Nintendo consoles.
