Haptic Touch in iOS 17 features a fast option that mimics the 3D Touch

Apple announced iOS 17 at its WWDC 2023 event with a boatload of forward-facing changes and new features. The platform will be released to the general public later this year alongside the new iPhone 15 lineup. Currently, iOS 17 rests in the initial beta phase, and the company has recently seeded the second beta to developers for testing. According to the latest, iOS 17 comes with a new Haptic Touch option that feels like 3D Touch.

New Fast Option in Haptic Touch will make the entire iOS 17 and iPadOS 17  experience faster as it mimics 3D Touch

iOS 17 is a major update considering the number of additions it brings to the table. With a faster Haptic Touch option in iOS 17, the device will register the same response but give much more prominent feedback. If you remember the iPhone 6s, Apple incorporated dedicated pressure-sensing technology called 3D Touch. The feature would sense the amount of pressure that you apply on the display and give you relevant options.

3D Touch was available on all devices till the iPhone XR before it was replaced with Haptic Touch. Haptic Touch delivered more or less the same functionality minus the pressure-sensing aspect of the display. When you tap and hold an icon, 3D Touch will respond accordingly. For instance, a harder tap would quickly launch the pop-up menu of a specific app. With the faster Haptic Touch option in iOS 17, the menus pop up comparatively faster and resemble the same feedback of a 3D Touch.

Up until now, Haptic Touch was slightly slower than 3D Touch in terms of operation, but with the faster option, the prior can now open menus at the same speed. Furthermore, the taps now feel much more sensitive. Take note that the option is not available in the display section of the Settings app. You can access the feature by navigating to the Setting app on your iPhone and heading over to Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch, and tapping on Fast. You also have the option to choose Slow and the Default settings for the feature.

As mentioned earlier, iOS 17 rests in the initial beta stage, and the company could see fit to remove the feature if it sees fit. However, it is highly unlikely since the new addition would be very helpful and make the overall user experience faster than before. Other than this, the fast Haptic Touch option will also be available on iPad. This will be a new addition for the iPad since it never featured a 3D Touch option.
