If you are unfamiliar with it, iOS 17.3 can be classified as a significant update, considering the number of improvements and features it will add to the mix. For your ease, we have listed the number of features in the iOS 17.3 release.

Stolen Device Protection

It was recently reported that thieves can steal your device and the passcode to disable Apple ID and Find My services. This allows them to gain complete access to the device, including iCloud Keychain and other sensitive data. The new Stolen Device Protection is Apple's solution for the problem. It adds a layer of security if your iPhone gets stolen. After the feature is turned on, a user is required to authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID. The feature will come into action when someone tries to change one of the following features:

  • Accessing iCloud Keychain
  • Apply for an Apple Card and view the Apple Card's virtual number
  • Disabling Lost Mode
  • Resetting the iPhone and erasing all content and settings
  • Some Apple Card Savings and Apple Cash features
  • Safari payment method
  • Setting up a new iPhone with your device

Stolen Device Protection is available on all compatible iPhone models. The feature can be turned on from the Settings app. Navigate to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Toggle on Stolen Device Protection.

Crash Detection Optimizations

On the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 lineup, the company has further optimized the Crash Detection feature. The latest improvements revolve around the false triggering of the feature.

Emoji Reactions in Collaborative Playlists

In collaborative playlists in Apple Music, users can react to any song using emojis. iOS 17.3 features a handful of emoji reactions for collaborative playlists. The emojis will animate when you are listening to a specific song.

AirPlay 2 for Hotels

Apple has selected some hotels that support AirPlay 2 for streaming content from your iPhone or Mac. This eliminates the need to enter your credentials on a TV set in a hotel.

Collaborative Apple Music Playlist

With collaborative playlists, you can invite friends and family to listen to your existing or new playlists. The feature is beneficial for those who share the same musical preferences. Apple does not mention how many people can be part of the collaborative playlists.

These are all the major features in iOS 17.3 that you should check out. Apple will potentially seed another beta build today for its forthcoming update. The beta will be available to developers before being released to the general public.
