Prices of Intel's latest Granite Rapids "Xeon 6900" CPUs have been revealed with the flagship costing $17,800 US for 128 P-Cores.

More P-Cores Means More $: Intel Reveals Xeon 6900P "Granite Rapids" CPU Prices With Up To $17,800 For Flagship 128 Core 6980P Chip

The data center Intel Granite Rapids Xeon 6900P CPUs were launched a week ago, which promises to offer a 90% performance uplift over the 5th gen Xeon processors. The specifications were already revealed at the launch but what remained a mystery was the pricing of all the SKUs in the series.

Today, Intel has revealed the MSRP for each SKU in the family. The Granite Ridge brings four SKUs to the Xeon 6900P family, starting from 72 cores, all the way to 128 cores. Not only the cores have doubled from the last-generation flagship processor but other specifications have also been increased drastically.

Intel Xeon 6980P price

As per the revealed pricing, the Intel Xeon 6952P processor is recommended to be priced at $11400, the Xeon 6960P at $13750, the Xeon 6972P at $14600, and the Xeon 6980P at $17800. In the last generation i.e., Emerald Rapids, the flagship processor Xeon 8593Q had a recommended price of $12400. The Xeon 8593Q brought 64 cores/128 threads, 320 MB cache, and a TDP of 385W.

Intel Xeon 6900P CPUs Intel Recommended Prices
Xeon 6952P $11400
Xeon 6960P $13750
Xeon 6972P $14600
Xeon 6980P $17800

On the other hand, the Xeon 6980P doubles the cores/threads, has 504 MB of cache, and works at a TDP of 500W. The Xeon 6980P has been claimed to offer huge AI improvements in MLPerf Inference v4.1 and as per Intel's testing, it brings up to 1.9x higher geomean performance uplift in AI inference, which challenges AMD's upcoming EPYC Turin processors.

AMD EPYC has been dominating this segment for a while but the Xeon 6900P series is said to tackle EPYC Turin competitively now that both companies will have core parity in the classic data center lineup. According to Intel, the Xeon 6900P is up to 5.5x faster in AI inferencing vs AMD's current EPYC processors and up to 2.1x faster in HPC performance. As per some reports, the 128-core Zen 5-based EPYC 9755 Turin processor is 2x faster than the previous 128-core processor featuring the Zen 4c architecture.

Going with these numbers, the Intel Xeon 6900 "Granite Rapids" CPU lineup is looking solid against the upcoming EPYC series but the price-to-performance ratio will decide who will come out at the top. Also, it's pretty important to note that the actual pricing of the Intel Xeon 6900P processors may differ from the recommended prices when the processors are available to the customers.
