Huawei record the highest shipments in the China tablet market for Q2 2024

Apple launched the M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro series in May, bringing a slew of impressive hardware to the table, particularly the chipset upgrades and tandem OLED. Unfortunately, these releases were insufficient to derail Huawei’s momentum in China, as a recent analysis reveals that the company recorded the highest shipments for the second quarter of 2024. Additionally, Huawei also posted the biggest annual growth for any tablet maker for this period.

Apple recorded a negative annual growth, while new figures reveal that Huawei posted a 66 percent increase

For Q2 2024, Canalys reveals that Huawei shipped 2.05 million shipments, garnering a 26 percent market share for this period, along with a massive 66 percent annual growth. Compared to the same quarter last year, the company shipped 1.23 million slates while obtaining a 19 percent market share. Apple continued to dominate China last year during Q2 2023, but Huawei’s resurgence ended the Cupertino giant’s hold in the region, as it shipped 2.01 million units in Q2 2024 while equaling Huawei’s 26 percent market share.

Keep in mind that during the same quarter last year, Apple had a 36 percent market share, and now, it has suffered a negative 14 percent annual growth. It appears that despite the capabilities of the M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air models, customers display a strong predilection for local vendors, which in turn is hurting Apple’s position. Additionally, China holds significant importance for Apple as it is the largest smartphone market by volume and carries immense weightage for tablet shipments.

In third place, another Chinese company, Xiaomi, failed to break the one million shipments barrier, but the latest figure is still higher than the 745,000 units it recorded for the Q2 2023 period. The company currently holds a 12 percent market share, with Honor coming in fourth place and Lenovo securing fifth position. We previously reported that Apple’s global tablet shipments increased 18.2 percent thanks to the new launches, but it struggles to get any meaningful traction in China. By the looks of it, the technology titan might have to accept its fate and focus its attention on other regions.
