The arrival of the Mate 60 series began the resurgence of Huawei on its home turf in China, and though the company has a long way to go to regain its once-dominant global position, its future smartphone launches might bring it closer to that goal. According to the latest data, the Mate 60 lineup shipped a total of 30 million units, which is a new record attained in less than six months.
Huawei achieved the Mate 60 shipment record in just four months and plans to maintain momentum with the P70 launch
Data accumulated from various bloggers on Weibo have provided their feedback on the Mate 60 shipments, with Huawei Central reporting that one individual with the handle @BeijingDigitalMaster has confirmed that the Mate 60 series shipped 30 million units. Unfortunately, none of the data revealed which version was the most popular, though it should be noted that all featured the 7nm Kirin 9000S chipset. Earlier, Counterpoint Research published data stating which smartphone model garnered the most popularity in China for October 2023.
It was revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max occupied the top spot, while the Mate 60 Pro secured the second position, so it is likely that the higher-end options ended up selling the most units despite the premium asking price. Shipping 30 million units is also an impressive figure from a supply chain point-of-view, as Huawei’s chip supplier, SMIC, was also facing yield problems with its 7nm wafers. Despite various obstacles in place, including the U.S. sanctions, Huawei defied all odds and ended the year on a high note.
For 2024, the company is estimated to ship 100 million units, with its upcoming P70 family reported to outsell the P60 series by 230 percent thanks to the major camera and other upgrades. Huawei is also said to be working on a new Kirin 9010, so an effective marketing strategy for the new chipset might help to propel sales of the upcoming flagship lineup. If the P70 cannot generate enough momentum, Huawei can always rely on the Mate 70 range to get the ball rolling.
