Here's how to farm Crucible Weapons in Nioh 3

Nioh 3 features a vast weapon selection, with many options within the different weapon types for Samurai and Ninja Style sporting a set passive skill, alongside randomly assigned skills that can be used to define your character build.

Among these weapon choices are Crucible weapons. These remarkable weapons are difficult to come by while playing the game normally, but there's an easy way to farm them in the early game.

Become the Master of Weapons: here's where you can farm Crucible Weapons, and why you should to unlock the full combat potential of Takechiyo.

How to Farm Crucible Weapons

Farming Crucible Weapons in Nioh 3 is surprisingly simple. These special weapons, which are identified in menus by a red skull icon, can be obtained as a loot drop from enemies fought inside Crucibles and Lesser Crucibles.

Though far easier to access, you cannot replay Lesser Crucibles (at least not during your first playthrough), and the only way to use them to farm Crucible Weapons would be to get defeated on purpose before defeating the final enemy. As you are brought back to the nearest Shrine upon defeat, farming weapons this way is far from optimal, as there's a lot of downtime between each run.

Thanks to the Battle Scrolls mechanics, however, you are free to replay through story missions as many times as you want, including the missions set inside Crucibles. This essentially serves you with the best mission to farm these special weapons: the first Crucible mission.

To farm Crucible Weapons, you have to:

  • Star the Crucible Manifested mission via the Battle Scrolls menu in the Shrine
  • Play through the mission (or rush) until you reach the second Bodhisattva Statue (Clan Estate), which is located right after a lone Ippon-Datara yokai. Approach the statue to activate the checkpoint.
  • Fight and defeat the Ippon-Datara. This enemy has a chance of dropping Crucible Weapons upon defeat.
  • As you are close to the Bodhisattva Statue checkpoint, you can defeat the Ippon-Datara Yokai and respawn it by praying in a short amount of time. This ensures you can defeat the enemy in rapid succession, offsetting the low drop rate chance of Crucible Weapons to make quick farming possible.

Why Farm Crucible Weapons?

While farming Crucible Weapons is not mandatory in any way to win the many battles ahead of Takechiyo, getting these weapons is required to fully unlock each weapon type's skill tree, as some Martial Arts can only be learned by maxing the proficiency of Crucible Weapons.

Even if you are just looking for powerful weapons, and have already moved past the Crucible Manifested mission, farming Crucible Weapons this way is still quite beneficial. Although the base level of the weapons farmed by taking down this Ippon-Datara over and over will be lower compared to other gear in your possession, you can easily increase their levels via Soul Matching by speaking with the Blacksmith in the Eternal Rift.

And if, by chance, you end up farming a lot of weapons you don't really need, you can Disassemble them for useful materials used to craft other gear, or use Soul Extraction to get the Soul Ores needed to level up gear via Soul Match.
