Saros: How to Get Your Favorite Weapon at the Start of Every Cycle

Here's how to reroll your weapon at the start of every Cycle in Saros to get the one you want

Being a roguelike, Saros expects you to build your loadout as you proceed through Carcosa. However, the random generation of weapons and Artifacts can often make a Cycle more difficult than expected.

However, there is a simple re-roll trick that lets you start every run with your preferred weapon.

The Secret to Starting Weapons

To get the exact weapon you want, you need to take advantage of a specific quirk in Saros: your next run always begins with the same weapon type you were holding when your previous run ended.

Whether you were defeated by an enemy or manually decided to return to the Passage hub, the game logs your current weapon category (such as Shotgun, Rifle, or Chakram) and generates a new version of that category for your next attempt.

How to Re-Roll Your Starting Weapon

While the game fixes the category of your starting weapon based on your last run, the specific model and thus its Alt-Fire, is randomized every time you step into the teleporter. You can use this mechanic to always get the weapon you want.

The Step-by-Step Method:

  1. Ensure you end your current run while holding the weapon type you prefer (e.g., if you want a Shotgun start, make sure you are holding any Shotgun when you die or exit).
  2. Begin a new run and check your starting weapon’s model and Alt-Fire mode.
  3. If the weapon isn't the specific variant you want, immediately quit your Cycle to return to the Passage
  4. The game will generate a different variation of that same weapon type for your next Cycle. Usually, it takes no more than 3 or 4 tries to land the exact variant you are looking for.

Why This Strategy Works

Using this method allows you to bypass the early-game scrounging phase, which often leaves you with a weapon you may not be comfortable with. Being a fan of the Stalwart Shotgun and its Pellet Wall Alt-Fire, I always make sure to end any Cycle with a shotgun, and spend a few minutes to ensure I can get a weapon that can help me clear biomes effectively, optional Nightmare Strands included.
