The Octopath Traveler 0 results screen shows character levels and experience points, with items obtained including 'Stone' ×3.
Using a specific strategy, it's possible to farm a lot of JPs in Octopath Traveler 0 even during the early game

Earning as many JPs as possible in Octopath Traveler 0 allows you to unlock travelers' skills and skill slots quickly and make them reach their full potential. However, earning enough points to unlock all Skills and Skill Slots requires winning a lot of battles, which can get tiring, especially if you plan to max out every traveler in the game.

With this farming strategy, you can farm over 2000 JP every 5 minutes with minimal preparation, reducing the time spent on grinding for a more enjoyable experience.

Core Strategy

This entire JP farming strategy relies on dealing 9,999 damage to any enemy using the Merchant's Arrow of Fortune skill, which grants a JP bonus depending on damage dealt.

Before you can deal such high damage, even during the early or mid-game, you will need to do some preparation first.

Requirements

Although you can use this JP farming strategy even during the early game, to farm JP effectively, you will first have to:

  1. Unlock the Merchant Job for your protagonist and learn the Arrow of Fortune skill
  2. Recruit Alexia
  3. Obtain the Forbidden Greatbow in Victors Hollow (Hard to do if you're below level 25)
  4. Have any means to reduce the enemy's Physical Defense (e.g, Therion's Armor Corrosive Skill)

Unlocking the Merchant Job

Unlocking the Merchant Job for the protagonist is really easy, and usually doesn't require much grinding. If you haven't unlocked it already, you only need to learn three skills for your last unlocked Job.

Recruiting Alexia

Alexia is one of the travelers who will join the party during the early game. To recruit her, talk to her inside the Theatropolis Library to begin the "An Encounter with Alexia" quest. Once her explanation of the Sacred Rings is complete, she will join your party.

Obtaining the Forbidden Greatbow

Obtaining the Forbidden Greatbow involves quite a bit of luck, especially if your party's average level is below 20, since you will need to go through Lv. 23 (West Valore Trail) and Lv. 34 (Victors Hollow Trail) areas. This powerful Bow (+350 Physical and Elemental Attack, -100 Speed) can only be acquired via the Entreat Path Action from an NPC located in Victors Hollow, a town located to the southwest of Wishvale.

Reaching Victors Hollow

To reach Victors Hollow, you must head to Valore and then proceed towards Valore Trail, West Valore Trail, and Victors Hollow Trail. This journey passes through high-level zones, but by following the exact route shown in the video below and using the Flee option at the start of every encounter, you can safely reach your destination. With some luck, you will eventually be able to flee every encounter and reach Victors Hollow safely.

Getting the Forbidden Greatbow

Once in Victors Hollow, head North to reach the [area] and then West to reach the Old Quarters area. Here, get to the northeast corner to find the Old Storyteller. If you're still early in the game, your Path Action interactions will have a very low chance of success, and you will have a 3% chance to Entreat him to give you the Forbidden Greatbow. Use your five chances to Entreat, and if you fail, quit to the title menu and then select Continue to retry.

It took me only three reloads to get the weapon at 3% chance, but even if it takes more tries, persevere, and the old man will eventually relent.

Reducing Enemies' Physical Defense (Optional)

Reducing enemies' physical defense via skills like Helmbreaker and Armor Corrosive is fundamental to hitting the 9999 damage cap, but not strictly required. This JP farming strategy will still work decently even if you don't deal max damage with Arrow of Fortune, but it will require more time to farm higher amounts of points.

How to Farm Over 2000 JP Every 5 Minutes

Pre-battle preparation

  1. Assign the Merchant Job with the Arrow of Fortune skill unlocked and equip the Forbidden Greatbow to your protagonist.
  2. Form your battle party: have the protagonist, Stia and Alexia in front row position. For the fourth character, have anyone who can reduce the enemies' Physical Defense. Therion works great if he has joined you already.
  3. Remove the equipped Staff and Tome from Alexia. She will need to break low-level enemies without defeating them.
  4. Stock up on SP restoration items such as Inspiring Plums to restore the party's SP without having to rest at an inn.

Step-by-Step Strategy

Using this strategy, I was able to farm 1927 JP in roughly 5 minutes, which could have been more with a better optimized approach

1. Head to Emberglow Slopes

The Emberglow Slopes area, located to the North of Emberglow, is the best early game location to farm JP using this strategy, as the most common enemy encounter features Ice Lizardman III and Frost Fox enemies, which Alexia can break without defeating them.

2. Break the enemy and Prepare for Max Damage

Once into battle against enemies that Alexia can break without one-shotting them, you will need to prepare to deal 9999 damage using Arrow of Fortune. To do so, you need to:

  1. Have Alexia break an enemy
  2. Have Therion or any character that can reduce the Physical Defense of enemies use their skills
  3. Donate BP with Stia to the protagonist or Alexia when required.

3. Defeat the Enemy

The Forbidden Greatbow's -100 Speed penalty should ensure your protagonist acts last after their BPs have been increased and an enemy has been broken and its defense reduced. On their turn, press the R1 (PlayStation) / RB (Xbox) / R /Switch to Boost and unleash Arrow of Fortune Max.

If your protagonist is still faster than the other characters, it's not a big deal, as, on the following turn, the Physical Defense down and Break status will still be active, allowing Arrow of Fortune to deal 9,999 damage for an additional 199 JP per defeated enemy.

Once you have defeated the first enemy, repeat the preparation steps to empower Arrow of Fortune and defeat all enemies by dealing 9,999 damage.

Depending on where you are in Octopath Traveler 0, this JP farming strategy can be even more effective. Once you recruit Ludo in the Sunlands, you can build the Training Grounds in Wishvale, which can distribute EXP and JP to characters not in your party and assign residents to them with the Technical Skill ability to marginally increase JP gained. In the late game, you won't even need to break enemies, as the combination of high Physical Damage and Physical Defense down will be more than enough to hit the 9,999 damage cap against weak enemies.
