Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has a few hidden combat mechanics that you should learn to have more fun in the game

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced significantly changes the original game's combat mechanics, adding modern features that make it far more enjoyable to take on enemies.

Although the combat system is relatively simple to understand, it holds a surprising amount of depth for an Assassin's Creed game, featuring a couple of hidden mechanics that can make quite a difference.

Parries Are Omnidirectional

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's combat mechanics place great emphasis on Takedowns, which are made it very easy by the Perfect Parry mechanics: press the L1/ LB button exactly when the enemy flashes, and you can start a Takedown chain which will be as long as your currently equipped weapon allows.

  • As enemies love to surround Edward and attack from multiple sides, you may find it difficult to parry attacks from enemies attacking you from the sides or from the back if you also attempt to face them.
  • However, what the game doesn't tell you is that Parries are omnidirectional, so you do not need to face an enemy to parry their attacks. Just press the correct button at the right time, and Edward will successfully defend himself.

Knowing this is extremely important, especially when you board ships to plunder them, as you fight enemies in a cramped space that lets them come at you from all directions. Once you stop worrying about facing them, and just focus your attention on their actions, you will have a much easier time during these chaotic fights.

The Rope Dart Makes You Invincible

In Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Edward can use a few extra tools in combat, and quickfire some of them such as his pistols and the Rope Dart. The latter is particularly useful to keep momentun going in combat, as by pressing R2/RT and Circle/B, you can pull an enemy towards you while opening them up.

  • One thing the game doesn't tell you is that using the Rope Dart grants Edward invincibility for the entire duration of the enemy pulling animation.
  • As such, you can use it to get out of sticky situations, such as when multiple enemies are attacking you, or if a gunner has set his sights on you: if you time the Rope Dart right, the bullet will go right through you without dealing damage.

This works great especially during stealth sequences if you get discovered. Defending against gunners can be challenging in these situations, but with the knowledge of the Rope Dart ample invincibility window, you can avoid a lot of damage, making getting discovered far less of an issue.
