Team Cherry's Hollow Knight: Silksong had already kicked off with a bang on launch day, easily beating the first game's player concurrency record on Steam, but in just 24 hours, that number has quintupled, breaking 562K concurrent players a couple of hours ago. In tandem with the Overwhelmingly Positive (95%) Steam review rating of nearly 20K user-submitted reviews, it speaks of the excellent early reception of the long-awaited indie Metroidvania game.
The concurrency record is all the more impressive if we consider that the game is available to Microsoft Game Pass subscribers on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X, and there are also other PC stores (such as GOG) and consoles (Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5). We'll have to wait for an official announcement from Team Cherry to know exactly how many players have jumped on Hollow Knight: Silksong across all these platforms.
PC users can also now access a Luma HDR mod made by Filippo Tarpini, the Remedy Games programmer who previously handled the Control HDR, Starfield Luma HDR, and Prey Remastered Luma HDR mods, among others.
Here's the full feature set shared by Tarpini:
- Adds native 16-bit HDR grading/tonemapping, respectful of the original art
- Customizable look with a few primary options (hdr paper white, hdr peak white, hdr highlights, UI brightness, etc)
- Improves SDR tonemapping mode (optional)
- Adds an SDR to HDR conversion step to Movies and some Menus (for a consistent look)
- Fixes 8-bit quantization and banding on character light
- Fixes visible steps at the edges of character light
- Fixes Vignette being overly dark in Ultrawide
- Allows disabling Vignette and a couple of other things
The Hollow Knight: Silksong Luma HDR mod requires the latest version of ReShade with add-on support. After you have installed that, place the files inside "Luma-Unity_Engine" in the Hollow Knight: Silksong folder, open the game and press "Home," and then configure the HDR experience sequentially.
