RCS support for iPhone

Apple has been trying to bring Rich Communication Service (RCS) to iPhones for a while, similar to the competition for enhanced messaging features and more quality photos and video sharing ability. This has finally been made possible through Apple's latest iOS 18 update, which marks a huge leap in improving users' messaging experience. However, the feature relies on carriers, so for users to see if they have the recently added support, they need to see if their specific carrier has enabled it.

With the RCS feature finally coming with the iOS 18, it is a huge pivot on Apple's end for its messaging service, and users have been long waiting for more features to be unlocked and for exchanging high-quality media with their friends and family. Each carrier must enable the RCS feature so that users can reap its benefits.

Those who are looking to see if their specific carrier has enabled RCS support on the iPhone can go to Apple's Wireless Carrier Support web page, which includes the list of the carriers providing support for RCS on iPhone with the latest iOS 18 installed. Established carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have had RCS support for a long time, but some new carriers in Canada, Asia, and Europe also seem to have enabled this facility.

iPhone users have struggled with exchanging files, GIFs, and other emojis with Android users, as the quality is often compromised in these exchanges. That issue would now be resolved, and users would have read receipts available for RCS, as well. The RCS messages might still appear as normal text messages, but they would be labeled as Text Message-RCS when users are engaged in a conversation.

We might see more carriers extend support for RCS in the near future. Users who have downloaded the iOS 18 update can see if RCS is enabled for them by going to Settings, selecting Apps, and, from there, going to Messages. If the option is not available on your iPhone, then your specific carrier has not yet enabled RCS on your device.
