Helldivers 2 finally received support for upscaler like NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR, but the community is not happy

As promised last week, Arrowhead Games launched a new Helldivers 2 update, finally introducing support for upscalers such as NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. However, the community is not happy with this update, as the implementation of all upscalers currently seems broken.

The 6.2.5 update release was accompanied by its full patch notes, which confirm all of the additions, which include on PC:

Related Story Helldivers 2 To Get NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, FSR 4.03 Support, But PlayStation 5 Pro Owners Will Only Get PSSR 1.0
  • FSR 3.1.5 (GPUs that support it will run FSR 4.0.3)
  • DLSS 4.5
  • XeSS 3.0
  • NVIDIA's Reflex for NVIDIA GPUs
  • AMD's Anti-Lag 2 for AMD GPUs

The update also introduces some improvements on consoles, including:

  • Increased resolution on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 to 1440p in Performance Mode.
  • Added Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for PS5 and PS5 Pro
  • Added Variable Rate Shading (VRS) for supported devices
  • VRS can help improve performance by reducing shading rates on certain areas of the image, resulting in less work for the GPU for similar looking close pixels
  • Added support for DRS on PC and PS5
  • With the introduction of DRS on all platforms we have also upped the resolution on Xbox Series X and PS5 to 1440p in the Performance preset
  • We have also upped the resolution in PS5 Power Saver mode to 1440p

With the introduction of highly requested features, the new Helldivers 2 patch should have made the community happy, but that hasn't happened, as many of the new features don't seem to be working properly.

"All upscalers are currently broken if you actually want them to upscale, any setting below native is unusable," writes Reddit user TheUniqueSpammer while providing some comparison images that do seem to confirm how blurry the game looks with NVIDIA DLSS in Balanced Mode. This isn't an isolated case, as others are reporting that both AMD FSR and Intel XeSS are not working as intended

On PlayStation 5 Pro, the situation seems different. Although it was disappointing to learn that Helldivers 2 would only receive PSSR 1.0 support, the implementation seems on point, with noticeable image-quality improvements such as reduced flickering and blurriness.

Although deeper testing may be needed to understand what is going on, looking at the images shared by the community, there's no denying that the new Helldivers 2 patch may have missed the mark. Hopefully, Arrowhead Games will quickly address these issues and reclaim some goodwill with a community that grows more disgruntled each passing day.
