The God of War Laufey SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) panel has delivered two big announcements: the game's release date and that another game featuring Kratos as the protagonist is in development.

God of War Laufey was previously rumored to launch in the first half of 2027, more specifically between February and March. Well, there won't be much to wait for fans, as the game is now officially slated to debut on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5.

As for the next Kratos game, Santa Monica Studio had already suggested there would be more stories featuring the titular God of War. Now, Cory Barlog confirmed that such a game is already in development and will connect directly to God of War Laufey.

Barlog also said in the panel:

Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next. Phranque has been around since the beginning. It's interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing.

This confirms what was already reported: the much-criticized cosmic cube Phranque was featured in the story since its very inception. For his part, actor Jack Quaid (the voice behind Phranque) expressed his raw excitement at joining the cast, and also talked about the character a little bit:

I'm on a Zoom with Cory and Ariel, and they told me I'm gonna be a cube. I'm like, 'Okay!" When they say jump, I ask how high. I'm a very anxious person and I'm always thinking about the future, it's nice to play a character in the moment. He sees hope in Faye. Phranque is very much an innocent, and there is something where I bring that out of Faye as well.

Given the proximity of the release date, which is less than seven months away, we can definitely expect more God of War Laufey details to be shared later this year by Santa Monica Studio.

February 2027 looks like a real bloodbath, by the way: Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and METRO 2039 will release in the span of a couple of weeks.
