Gmail, One of the Best Google Services Has

Gmail is undoubtedly one of the most prolific emailing services out there, and not just that, but it is also the best service that Google has to offer. While companies around the world are busy posting about April Fools, we look at how Google's emailing service has just turned 20 today.

20 years ago, Gmail changed the history of emailing forever

Although I have never had to experience this, Gmail has changed the world of emails for the better. I remember being told that back in the early 2000s, it used to cost money to actually make email accounts and, sometimes, even send emails. Not only that, emails were not really as reliable back then as they are today. Sure, phishing attacks have only become more powerful, but if you look past that, you will realize that the emailing world has mostly changed forever and for the better.

Gmail was officially introduced on 1st April 2004, and I can surely believe that if someone does something like this today, we would consider it an April Fool's joke. The email service quickly became a lot more popular than any of us had anticipated at first.

With Gmail, Google made emails accessible to everyone. You were getting a free email account, up to a gigabyte of storage, when the competition was barely offering anything. Most importantly, it brought ease of access to a point where anyone and everyone could use the emailing service without any issues.

Gmail soon became the center of attention and the go-to email service for everyone. I remember being a late adopter, however. I think back to my first account being made when I bought my first Android phone, the HTC Desire. Considering it was an Android, having a Google account was necessary. That is what started my journey with what I believe is to be the best email client, and the rest is history. I still have my older email accounts, but I never feel like using them.

Today, Gmail stands at 1.2 billion active email accounts, which is impressive, to say the least. Sure, that does not mean that 1.2 billion people are using the service, but it still shows that Google has managed to do something right.

In the past twenty years, we have seen Gmail progress a lot, and it is almost strange to think how the email service is going to turn out in the next twenty years, but one thing is for sure: Google is not killing its most prized possession.

When I am not writing here, I am wasting myself away in books, journals, or on Steam.
