According to a report from Insider-Gaming, the next mainline Ghost Recon title is due out sometime in fall 2026 and will enter into an internal alpha testing phase later this year at some point in fall 2025.
Insider-Gaming further claims that the game is currently being developed under the codename Ovr, and that the push for this new Ghost Recon game to enter alpha testing this fall follows Ubisoft confirming that its upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake will arrive by March 2026, with some of the company's "biggest" titles being pushed back.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint was the last mainline entry into the long-running series, and a little less than three years after its 2019 launch, Ubisoft stopped working on new content for it in order to move on to the next game in the series. Breakpoint was a major low point in the series, and shortly after development on Breakpoint ended, Ubisoft cancelled a previously announced Ghost Recon game, Frontline.
The last time we heard about a potential release window for the next mainline Ghost Recon title pointed to it coming out sometime in 2025. Which, it seems safe to say, isn't the case anymore.
In fact, we probably won't see or hear anything official about this new Ghost Recon title until 2026, as Ubisoft is currently set to have a very muted 2025. The company is still "deep" in the development for the Sands of Time Remake, there's been no word on the coming Splinter Cell Remake. Ubisoft shut down its free-to-play multiplayer shooter, XDefiant, earlier this year.
Right now, the only Ubisoft titles to look forward to in 2025 are Anno 117: Pax Romana, The Rogue Prince of Persia, and a new title called Morbid Metal that's releasing in early access this coming August. News for all three of those titles was all that Ubisoft had to show during this year's Summer Game Fest events, since it also confirmed earlier this month that the company will not be hosting a Ubisoft Forward event in 2025. All the while, Ubisoft is working through internal restructuring due to its deal with Tencent.
Yes, Ubisoft did release Assassin's Creed Shadows earlier this year, and it's been a sizeable win for the company when it desperately needed one. So the year isn't a total wash. But once again, in the same way that Ubisoft's big misses in 2024 put more pressure on it to have a better 2025, the pressure for every release in Ubisoft's portfolio for 2026, including this rumored Ghost Recon game, is reaching a new breaking point.
