Gears 5 Becomes the Most-Played Xbox Game Studios Title Since Halo 4 and Breaks XGP Records
Gears 5, the Coalition’s latest Gears of War installment, has become the most-played Xbox Game Studios title since Halo 4, Microsoft has announced.
Microsoft’s general manager of Xbox Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, announced the news on the official Xbox Wire. Released globally earlier this month for Xbox One and PC, the performance of Gears 5 easily doubled the first-week debut of its predecessor of 2016, Gears of War 4.
“Thanks to the incredible support from our fans, Gears 5 kicked off the Holiday season strong – attracting over three million players in its opening weekend and setting new records for Xbox Game Pass with the biggest launch week of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation”, Greenberg writes. “The performance easily doubled the first week’s debut of Gears of War 4 and made Gears 5 the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012’s Halo 4. First week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday, September 6, which was exclusive to Gears 5 Ultimate Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.”
In addition to becoming the most-played Xbox Game Studios title since 2012’s Halo 4, performance of Gears 5 on PC nearly tripled compared to Gears 4 and has become the biggest-ever launch for Xbox Game Pass on PC.
From one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas, Gears is bigger than ever, with five thrilling modes and the deepest campaign yet. With all-out war descending, Kait Diaz breaks away to uncover her connection to the enemy and discovers the true danger to Sera – herself.
