Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Yesterday, Square Enix debuted a gorgeous new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer to reveal the game's PlayStation 5 launch date of February 29, 2024.

However, we also learned that the game will only be exclusive to the PS5 console for three months, per the deal between Sony and Square Enix. That's a much shorter timeframe than Final Fantasy VII Remake, exclusive for a full year on PlayStation consoles, and Final Fantasy XVI, which had six months of exclusivity.

Now, we should stress that it doesn't necessarily mean Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available on PC the following day. For instance, while the timed exclusivity for Final Fantasy XVI will expire in late 2023, the developers already clarified they'll need more time to prepare the PC version. The same happened with Final Fantasy VII Remake, the first part of the remake trilogy, which only launched on PC a year and a half after the original debut on PlayStation 4. Still, it's possible that two new Final Fantasy games will be released on PC in 2024: XVI and Rebirth.

Yesterday, Square Enix revealed much information on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, including its projected length of nearly a hundred hours. Producer Yoshinori Kitase said:

This second installment of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project will feature elements from the previous game, as well as greatly enhanced features such as the vast world map to explore and synergy abilities with party members. The story will unfold more dramatically than ever before, with a rapid pace of major twists and turns.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can be enjoyed on its own as a standalone adventure, with the party leaving Midgar to explore the wide world beyond. But for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the story, a recap of the previous game will also be provided.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi added:

In this title, Cloud and his friends, who have fled Midgar, will be setting out on an adventure across an expansive world of untold adventure in pursuit of Sephiroth, the legendary SOLDIER. While the main storyline is bigger and more ambitious than the previous game’s narrative, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also embraces the concept of "free exploration," with compelling stories, fun mini-games, powerful monsters, and so much more to find throughout the world map. We hope you will explore this world in great detail as nearly 100 hours of adventure await.
