Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S in a little over a week on June 3, and the second entry in the series is already set to break a record on the Nintendo current-generation system in terms of file size, making games like Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition feel like very small games in comparison.
According to new information found on the game's Japanese My Nintendo Store page, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be 102 GB big. Although the final file size may differ, as the official European Nintendo website shows a 91.5 GB size (which may not take a potential day one patch into account), the second entry in the remake trilogy is setting out to be the biggest Nintendo Switch 2 game in terms of size by date, exceeding the file size of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (90.4 GB), Split Fiction (71 GB), and Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition (60 GB).
Compared to Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition, however, those looking to get Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 don't have any other option other than having to download the entire game. For their open-world RPG, CDPR did everything possible to ensure the full game was available on the retail version. The second entry in the remake trilogy, on the other hand, is launching on a Game Key Card at retail like its predecessor (which made headlines last month for running surprisingly well on a modded original Nintendo Switch), requiring a full game download to play.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S next week is likely not the only happening for the series. With Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 possibly getting announced during the upcoming showcases, and Tifa rumored to join the Street Fighter 6 roster in the game's fourth season, there's a lot to look forward to for fans of the Square Enix game.
