The rumored Final Fantasy IX remake will not be an action role-playing game like the latest entries in the series but will feature more traditional gameplay, according to some new rumors.
Speaking on the ResetEra forums, Im a Hero Too, who revealed last week that the remake may be a PlayStation console exclusive and is likely not to release on Nintendo Switch, revealed that the remake will have traditional gameplay, so it is likely to feature an evolution of the Active Time Battle System featured in the original. Additionally, they have revealed that, while the remake won't be on the same level as the Final Fantasy VII Remake, it won't be a simple remaster.
While more insiders are talking about the Final Fantasy IX remake, as even Jeff Grubb recently stated that the game is real and coming, Square Enix has yet to announce it. That it is coming, there's almost no doubt, as it was among the games mentioned in the massive GeForce NOW leak from 2020, and almost every Square Enix title in the leak has indeed, with only a few exceptions such as the Final Fantasy IX remake, and the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, which, at this point, are likely to be announced in the near future.
Although the Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary didn't bring news of this remake, the occasion was still remarkable for all curious gamers with a passion for tech, as one of the game's lead developers, Kazuhiko Aoki, shared an interesting revelation regarding an old PlayStation 2 urban legend.
