Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation Will Emotionally Break Players, As The Game Will Deliver Massive Cathartic Payoff In 2027

Characters from Final Fantasy VII Revelation, including Cloud Strife, stand in a mystical setting surrounded by glowing flora.

While there's a lot of excitement for how the Highwind will redefine the scope of the entire series and how the world will feel more substantial, Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy VII Revelation will have a lot more going on for itself on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 Being the conclusion of the trilogy, the biggest challenge will be to deliver a proper payoff for the events seen in the first two entries in the series, and in this regard, it seems like the game will not disappoint, as it will emotionally break players with Cloud's vulnerability while delivering a massive, cathartic finale.

"I'm very excited for some big finale scenes," said Britt Baron, who voices Tifa in the Remake trilogy in an interview at KawaCon 2026 with Ally B. "I feel like we have two games kind of building up to this massive ending. And, in a game where everyone's dancing around things, it feels like we finally come into a closure. Get some weights off our chests."

Cody Christian, who plays Cloud in the Remake trilogy, provided slightly more information on how Final Fantasy VII Revelation is going to break players. "There’s so much emotionality, there’s so much vulnerability," he said. “There are moments in this that if you haven’t cried in the first two yet, I guarantee you’ll be sobbing in this third one."

While the two actors obviously didn't get into specifics, it's clear from their statements that the main characters will deal with the aftermath of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's ending in Final Fantasy VII Revelation in a big, satisfying way. The mention of intense vulnerability by Cloud's actor also strongly hints at how the famous Lifestream sequence will possibly be even more emotional, going from Cloud just finally coming to terms with what happened in Nibelheim to also dismantling the state of complete denial he has been in since the end of the second entry in the series, which is a change I really appreciated, as it possibly makes the event that sends him into this state even more tragic.

The Community Didn't Need To Be Told

As every little breadcrumb of information sends a community that embarked on this journey in 2015 into a spin, it's not surprising to learn that many fans did not need to be told that they would be crying with Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This actor commentary directly mirrors recent comments from director Naoki Hamaguchi, who noted that the team was left equally emotional during internal playthroughs.

"Jokes on him, I was probably going to be crying anyway. It could have the happiest ending ever and I would cry just because its over and journey is done after hundreds of hours," said Reddit user Regular_Nail 407.

Others went the extra mile, such as user Gahvynn, who listed every possible ending variable that would make them cry. "Best part about this statement is it gives absolutely nothing away. If they end it the same way the OG ended many of us will cry. If they deus ex machina the game and bring Aerith back to life in the "main" timeline and she lives we'll cry, if they bring her back and she dies we'll cry. If they merge both timelines into one and anyone dies, we'll cry. If they merge both timelines and one side has to sacrifice to save itself, we'll cry. The only scenario in which I find myself not crying but rather angry is if Sephiroth "wins" by destroying all life in both timelines, absorbing the life force, and then flies to the next planet."

Funnily enough, others will have a very different reaction. "Real men just boot up Remake, start the journey again and don't face their feelings," said user CrazyGunnerr. However, it seems like there won't be an immediate need to return to Remake after Final Fantasy VII Revelation ends, as last week, the game's Story Expansion Pass was revealed via a leak from the Epic Games Store backend, suggesting the journey will continue in some way after the credits roll.

Will the additional story content tie the Remake trilogy to Advent Children, or it will be completely original? Hard to say at the moment, but the more we hear about Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the harder it is to not get excited by what is set to be one of the best games launching in 2027.
