Last Saturday, Russian developer Battlestate Games published a new teaser trailer for Escape from Tarkov Arena, the standalone game based on their hit hardcore first-person shooter game.

Originally announced in early June 2022, Escape from Tarkov Arena is a session-based multiplayer FPS that is said to incorporate mechanics from the main game. Escape from Tarkov players will even have the chance to play as their main character in the various PvP and PvE modes that are being prepared. Owners of the Edge of Darkness Limited Edition (priced at $110) have Arena included as part of the Season Pass, while everyone else will have to get it separately.

Fictionally, the battles take place in various arenas around Tarkov, organized in a gladiatorial fashion by the so-called Arena Master and their Host leader.

The purpose of this standalone game is likely to access a more mainstream user base that doesn't want to go through the hassles of Escape from Tarkov, where players constantly risk losing their equipment and loot if they die in a raid before extracting from the map.

Battlestate Games effectively spearheaded the extraction shooter subgenre, which has since spawned many other examples that followed in its footsteps. Interestingly, the game is still technically in Closed Beta nearly six years after this phase started, though the developers have continuously added new content. Earlier this year, the long-anticipated Streets of Tarkov map debuted in the game alongside support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.1

There's no release date yet for Escape from Tarkov Arena, but Battlestate Games aims to release more information about this standalone title later this year.
