[UPDATE - March 5, 2026] Remedy has now confirmed that Jesse Faden won't be a playable character in Control Resonant.
[ORIGINAL STORY] Although it was widely known that Remedy Entertainment has been working on the second entry in the Control series for a while, the reveal of Control Resonant was still quite a surprise for fans of the Finnish studio. Right from its very first showing during last year's The Game Awards show, it was clear how the second entry in the series would be a very different game from its predecessor, closer to a character action game than to the third-person shooter formula seen in Jesse Faden's venture into the Oldest House.
The first few looks at Control Resonant's gameplay gave the right impression, as evidenced by one of the game's first previews, which also revealed a rather impressive technical detail that should make the experience enjoyable on every platform.
In a new video preview shared today, IGN confirmed that Control Resonant will target 60 FPS on all platforms. While this is hardly surprising for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, considering the demanding Alan Wake 2 did run at 60 FPS in Performance Mode (although with considerable visual cutbacks), it most definitely is for Xbox Series S. As such, it will be interesting to see how the Northlight Engine will achieve this target framerate in conjunction with an enhanced draw distance and high number of enemies on screen, and if a solid Xbox Series S version could lead to an equally impressive Nintendo Switch 2 port down the line.
Besides commenting on the game's framerate target on all platforms, the Control Resonant preview also goes over plenty of interesting details. With its aggressive action game experience, the new entry in the series is compared to the Devil May Cry and Bayonetta series, sporting similar mechanics such as perfect dodges and extended dashes, which will be unlocked gradually during the game. Dylan's main weapon will also come with customizable primary and secondary attacks, as well as combo finishers which should help make the experience feel fresh over several hours.
As a huge fan of both character action games and Remedy's games, I have high expectations for Control Resonant. Hopefully, this character action experiment will fare better than FBC Firebreak, which cleverly leveraged elements of the Remedy Connected Universe but ultimately left much to be desired as a live service game.
