Samsung’s 3GB GDDR7 Memory Modules Available On Sale In China; Hints At Higher Memory Capacity On The Upcoming NVIDIA Cards

It's no surprise since Samsung 3GB modules already exist but only found their place in the Laptop RTX 5090. However, with better availability, NVIDIA is likely going to use these in the Super series.

Chinese Retailer Lists Samsung's 3GB GDDR7 Memory Chips, Which Indicates Higher Memory Capacity on the "Super" Series RTX 50 Graphics Cards

Almost all the RTX 50 series GPUs, including laptop and desktop variants, utilize the 2 GB GDDR7 memory modules, except for the RTX 5090 laptop, which is the first to deploy the 3 GB chips. Since the 3 GB modules exist, NVIDIA is likely going to bring these to the new RTX 50 GPUs, which could be branded as the "Super" series.

One of the strongest indications is the availability of Samsung's 3 GB GDDR7 modules on a Chinese retailer, as spotted by @RubyRapids. The 3 GB modules go by K4VCF325ZC-SC28 while the 2 GB modules go by K4VAF325ZC. The K4VCF modules also appear in NVIDIA's official RTX 5090 video, which suggests that NVIDIA's RTX 5090 may get an upgrade with the 3 GB modules as well.

Currently, the RTX 5090 already brings the highest VRAM capacity in the entire GeForce lineup, but with the transition from 2 GB to 3 GB modules, we may see a 48 GB RTX 5090 card in the near future. It's totally possible, but it's more exciting to think that NVIDIA might upgrade the VRAM capacity of other slower RTX 50 GPUs, such as the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 5070, and the RTX 5060.

The RTX 5060 will particularly benefit incredibly with the 3 GB modules as it only offers 8 GB VRAM capacity. Going from 8 GB to 12 GB will increase its appeal, but we don't know if NVIDIA has any plans to upgrade its memory. The same could be possible on the RTX 5060 Ti. One of the recent reports suggested that NVIDIA is going to release an RTX 5080 "Super" this year with 24 GB VRAM, which is an 8 GB upgrade over the original RTX 5080.

Similarly, we could see the RTX 5070 with a good 18 GB GDDR7 VRAM capacity, and 24 GB RTX 5070 Ti with the latest 3 GB modules. Keep in mind that nothing is official yet but there is a high chance that the Super series does get such an upgrade.
