At Display Week 2023, BOE (Beijing Oriental Electronics) showcased the first 16K resolution screen display in the world, creating a new benchmark for the industry.

BOE Unveils Massive 110-Inch 16K Display But You'll Need The World's Fastest GPU To Even Have A Chance of Gaming On It

The display, courtesy of @Vincent_Teoh, measures an astonishing 110-inch in size, but that's not all. It has a stunning 16K resolution (15360 x 8640) & a yet standard 60Hz refresh rate. The complete screen has 132M pixels, which is significantly more than the standard 1080p or 1440p resolutions.

This is the first time we have come across a display with a resolution of this caliber in the industry. Don't get too excited just yet since most GPUs on the market cannot handle such a large display, so operating it has its own challenges. Some of the features touted by BOE include:

  • Extremely high resolution beyond the retina
  • Enormous amount of display information

The LCD technology used in the display comes with a 1200:1 contrast ratio, 99% DCI-P3 color coverage, and 400 nits of brightness. Vincent reports that at close range, the large panel has no visible pixels, which is remarkable given how uncommon it is for displays of this size to be devoid of visible pixels.

BOE is well-known for being the first to market with groundbreaking innovations in technology. In a previous story, we discussed how BOE demonstrated its brand-new 110-Inch 8K 3D display at the 6th Digital China Construction Summit. Despite its impressive capabilities, such technology is not well-suited for the consumer market because of its high price and manufacturing complexities.

We are not yet certain if BOE will release the panel in the market since no official verdict has yet surfaced. We may, however, see a product with comparable features on the market in the near future, given the company's stated dedication to its competition.
