EA and Battlefield Studios have released the latest update for Season 2 of Battlefield 6 titled Nightfall, which adds the other new map promised in this season, Hagental Base. It also adds two new weapons, a motorcycle as the latest vehicle added to the game, and most importantly, a new limited-time mode also called Nightfall, where players battle it out in dark corridors with night vision goggles handy.
While the first new map of Season 2, Contaminated, was something closer to maps like Mirak Valley, Hagental Base is a different because its core experience revolves around its tight corridors, especially when playing in the Nightfall LTM which limits the map to exclusively be a close-quarters battle all in pitch black.
The new weapons added in this phase are the CZ3A1 submachine gun, and the VC.61 fully-automatic sidearm. Outside of these new additions to your loadout, when hopping into the Nightfall LTM, you'll also be given access to night vision goggles automatically, similar to how gas masks were available to players on Contaminated.
Recon players will also be able to add a Drone to their loadout in their gadget slot to help them see through the darkness of Hagental Base in Nightfall, and there's always thermal optics and flashlights available for players to take advantage of. You'll also want to be extremely wary of using laser sights, since they'll be far more visible when all the other lights are out.
Season 2 first launched on February 17, after it was delayed an additional month, much to the chagrin of players who already felt like EA and Battlefield Studios were taking too long to release new content. Its arrival, however, did have the intended effect and injected a bit more energy into the game. Now, the second phase of Season 2 hopes to follow up with a better increase to momentum.
Back when Season 2 launched, I got the chance to check a bit of it out ahead of its arrival. While my initial impressions were only based on the first phase in Season 2, looking at the rest of the roadmap for the season, it felt like a lot of emphasis was placed on limited-time modes and not elements that players could rely on in the future. Contaminated and its VL-7 hallucinogenic smoke wasn't beloved by everyone, but hopefully, the new Nightfall LTM will be more widely accepted.
