Deck 13's Atlas Fallen didn't exactly light the world on fire when it launched in August. Granted, it was kind of smashed between giants (Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield, for example), but the reception from users and critics was still underwhelming.
In Wccftech's review, the action RPG got a 7 out of 10 from Francesco De Meo:
Before release, Atlas Fallen looked like an intense action game that could rival the best titles released in the past few years. The execution, however, relegates Deck13's latest game to be nothing more than a decent title that can be fun if one is willing to look past its shortcomings. With a little more polish, the game could have been great, but in its current state, it will eventually become a faint memory like the world that was covered in sand by the God Thelos.
Now, publisher Focus Home Interactive has certified in their half-year report that the game was also financially disappointing.
Disappointment on sales of Atlas Fallen impacted half-year profitability and the large number of launches this semester directly explains the significant increase in amortisations within the gross margin and the raise in gaming marketing costs compared to the same period last year.
However, fans of the game shouldn't be discouraged, as the report also reveals that Atlas Fallen is getting new content and an enhanced version in the first half of FHI's 2024-2025 fiscal year. That actually means in the second half of the calendar year, so anywhere between July and December 2024.
Of course, that doesn't mean no further updates will be released in the meantime. Deck 13 has already added AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 support with the first major patch, while the second patch released in mid-November focused on quality-of-life improvements.
Atlas Fallen is currently 50% off on all platforms, though the cheapest platform to get the game is undoubtedly the Epic Games Store. Thanks to the 33% coupon provided by the Holiday Sale, the price goes down to just $16.74.
