ASUS ROG Ally X Handheld Priced At $799, Packs AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU & 1 TB SSD 1

ASUS's recently teased ROG Ally X handheld is expected to debut at $799 US with upgraded storage and memory capabilities.

ASUS's ROG Ally X Handheld Still Packs The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU But Comes With Upgrade Memory, Storage & Design Specs That Cost A Bit Extra

When the newer ASUS ROG Ally X handheld was teased a few days ago, ASUS decided against providing a proper rundown on specifications just for the element of surprise. While we weren't expecting a "mere" refresh of the original ROG Ally, it was certainly interesting to see the device surface. Now, the leaker @MysteryLupin has disclosed the specifications of the handheld, clarifying the situation even further.

Based on the leaked spec list, it is evident now that the ASUS ROG Ally X is based on the same AMD Ryzen Z1 architecture. Still, the difference here is that the Z1-Non Extreme APU won't be included since the X model targets higher-end performance. It is said that the device will come with the same 7-inch 1080p panel running at 120 Hz, this department has no improvement. The onboard storage is the bumped-up part since the ROG Ally X will feature 1 TB of storage as a baseline, which is enough for modern-day usage.

In other details, the handheld comes with the upgraded LPDDR5X-7500 memory support and a 40% bigger battery, as disclosed by ASUS in their teaser details. The ROG Ally X will also debut with a black color scheme, which in images looks stunning and is indeed a great match.

That's it for most of the part. In terms of performance, the ROG Ally X certainly isn't much of a leap over its "Non-X" counterpart, except for the fact that it comes with upgraded memory support. The major change made is in the onboard storage compatibility and battery capacities.

The leaker has also given us a hint of potential pricing of the ROG Ally X since he says that the starting price is expected to be around $799, which is around a $100 bump than what the normal variant goes for. Because you're paying for higher storage and sort of improved specifications, the bump isn't a large one and is justified for a refresh like this one. We aren't aware of the device configurations yet, but it is capable of housing up to 8 TB drives. More details are expected to be announced at Computex 2024.
