Following earlier rumors from Tom Henderson that Assassin's Creed Mirage would launch in October, a slew of Japanese retailers (including Amazon) have now marked down Ubisoft's game for an October 12th release date.

Since Japanese retailers don't usually add product release dates once they are certain (placeholders aren't a thing), it's likely this is the correct launch date.

Assassin's Creed Mirage was originally meant to be a DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but its scope was expanded and it became a standalone game. The main protagonist, Basim Ibn Ishaq, was a side character in Valhalla.

Mirage takes place a few decades earlier when Basim was a young thief living on the streets of 9th century Baghdad (around the Islamic Golden Age). Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio leading this project's development, described the narrative as a coming of age story where Basim is indicted among the Hidden Ones by a character named Roshan, who will be played by renowned actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Compared to games like Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins, Assassin's Creed Mirage will be much more compact, harkening back to the first entries in the franchise. It will have a much greater focus on stealth and assassination missions, while the RPG elements introduced in recent entries have been greatly toned down.

The initial rumors pointed to an August launch for Mirage, but there must have been an internal delay of four months. We're poised to learn a lot more about the game anyway between the PlayStation Showcase (scheduled to air later today), Summer Game Fest (airing on June 8th), and Ubisoft's own Forward event (streaming on June 12th from Los Angeles).

Assassin's Creed Mirage will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X.
