Apple’s iPhone Fold CAD Renders Show A Weirdly Squat Design

Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, tentatively dubbed the iPhone Fold, is already one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2026. Yet, new CAD renders, from a less-than-stellar source, depict a device that is weirdly squat in terms of its dimensions.

Apple iPhone Fold's purportedly squat dimensions

Now, a German website, iphone-ticker, has published CAD renders of the iPhone Fold, showing a device that bears the dimensions of 83.8mm x 120.6mm x 9.6mm. When fully unfolded, the diagonal length of the screen spans 139.4mm. Also, a 1.8mm hinge extends out from the side of the device when it is folded.

If you place two iPhones side-by-side, they make up a rough square. However, the iPhone Fold unfurls to form a rectangle, giving off distinctly squat vibes with its shorter and wider frame. Moreover, when fully unfurled, you are presented with a 7.76-inch screen, as per the CAD renders, which is a tad less than the iPad mini's 8.3-inch screen.

Finally, when folded, the iPhone Fold is 9.6mm thick, but its thickness declines dramatically to just 4.8mm (excluding the camera bump) when the device is fully unfurled. For context, the iPhone Air has a thickness of 5.64mm.

This comes as The Information reported earlier this week that the iPhone Fold will be equipped with a 7.7-inch inner display, and a 5.3-inch outer one, which aligns with the dimensions shown in the CAD renders above. The publication also noted that the displays of the device constitute a "complex" aggregation of "specialty glass and materials" from companies like Corning and SCHOTT.

Meanwhile, the iPhone Fold is expected to sport the following features and design elements:

  1. crease-less design for the foldable screen.
  2. A dedicated vapor chamber.
  3. A book-style form factor, with the iPhone Fold's primary panel measuring ~7.7 inches, and the cover display measuring ~5.4 inches.
  4. A 2,713 x 1,920 resolution, with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
  5. Touch ID instead of Face ID.
  6. A20 Pro SoC, a 12GB RAM, in-house C2 5G modem.
  7. A 48MP resolution for the rear dual-camera setup.
  8. An in-display camera with a resolution of up to 24MP.
  9. A battery with a capacity of 5,400-5,800mAh.
  10. An H2 2026 launch.
  11. To launch as an eSIM-only variant.
  12. Projected price of around $2,399.
  13. Expected shipments in the first year to vary between 7 million and 9 million units.
