Update - A Samsung spokesperson reached out to us, clarifying that the now-removed report published on ETNews is inaccurate. While our source didn’t provide specific details, he mentioned that the actual facts do not reflect the claim that Samsung will mass produce 11 million OLED panels for the iPhone Fold.

The inner OLED panel belonging to the iPhone Fold will exclusively be mass produced by Samsung, and according to the latest estimate, the premium handset could be sold in a higher volume because its panel production quantity has been increased by 30 percent. Additionally, a fresh report highlights two new technologies that will help the iPhone Fold stand out not just from the competition, but from next year’s iPhone 18 series too.

Samsung to reportedly mass produce 11 million OLED panels for the iPhone Fold, with the latter possibly being Apple’s first handset to be treated to an in-screen camera and more

An in-screen camera has previously been mentioned by Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, who also stated that the iPhone Fold will sport an in-screen camera with a 24MP resolution. Unfortunately, Apple’s first foldable smartphone will lack Face ID because design complications will prevent the Cupertino firm from adding the TrueDepth camera components to the device. Whether this sensor will produce image and video quality on par with the iPhone 18’s front-facing shooter is another debate, but we’d like to mention that ETNews highlighted that the iPhone Fold will ship with COE, or Color Filter on Encapsulation.

This is the same technology that is scheduled to arrive exclusively for the Galaxy S26 Ultra early next year, with COE enabling a thinner display, higher brightness efficiency, increased resolution, and reduced weight. All of these improvements are paramount for boosting the iPhone Fold’s display, which is estimated to retail for $2,399, so it is crucial for Apple to make as many additions as possible to make the purchase worthwhile. Details shared by tipster @jukan05 from the same report suggest that the iPhone Fold will pick up in demand.

Where the display industry previously anticipated the device’s OLED shipments in the 6-8 million-unit range, Samsung is now said to mass produce 11 million panels, marking a 30 percent increase. Not only is this production bump monetarily beneficial to Apple’s sole OLED manufacturer, but it will also provide a meaningful catalyst for the foldable OLED market size, which has only witnessed 20 million annual shipments. Although foldable smartphones are gaining momentum, it is at a snail’s pace and is not providing the return on investment that companies were hoping for. Perhaps Apple’s entry with its iPhone Fold turns things around for the industry.
