The first half of 2027 will be filled with powerful computing products from Apple, with the latest report stating that a redesigned 14-inch M7 MacBook Pro and the 11-inch and 13-inch M7 iPad Pro refresh will arrive in the same period. The M6 MacBook Pro is expected later this year, and apart from a chipset upgrade, there’s pretty much nothing else that’ll be changed about the portable Mac.
The M6 and M7 will have a short launch time frame
Starting with the 11-inch and 13-inch M7 iPad Pro models, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that both tablets will be upgraded with a vapor chamber so that they can perform optimally with the improved heat dissipation. Gurman also mentioned that the same cooling upgrade will arrive to the M6 iPad Pro, but we’ll have to wait for that update.
As for the 14-inch M7 MacBook Pro, it’s expected to receive the same design makeover as Apple’s upcoming OLED MacBook Pro lineup, but there are lots of questions that remain unanswered. For instance, we’ve known that the newer chassis will be thinner, but does that mean the M7 MacBook Pro will be treated to an OLED upgrade, and by extension, a touchscreen?
Since the upcoming redesigned MacBook Pro series is also getting treated to a vapor chamber, will the M7 model receive the same cooling upgrade, or will Apple stick with the same single heatpipe and single fan solution? It appears we have to wait for more information to come through.
Why does the M6 have a small launch window?
The answer could be linked to how the M7 will focus more on bringing improved on-device AI performance to the table. According to the previous report, the unified memory bandwidth of the Apple Silicon is 240GB/s, making it 56 percent higher than the M5’s and pretty much necessary for running local LLMs.
We can also assume that the M7 will be outfitted with a bigger Neural Engine, with the possibility that the base MacBook Pro is configurable beyond the 32GB unified memory threshold of previous models. Of course, all of the unanswered mysteries will be unlocked in the first half of next year, so stay tuned for more updates.
